Whoa. Three 200-megapixel cameras, on one phone! And a price tag that's just as big. Hold that whoa. It's the Oppo Find X10 Pro Max! 1,499 pounds, built for photographers and video creators. This is Tech After Dark. We read six write-ups: reviews, a hands-on, launch reports. Zero hands touched. Zero hands. Tragic. I had a whole plan to borrow it. New thing one: the main, ultrawide and zoom cameras are all 200 megapixels.
So every lens grabs serious detail, not just the main one. Two: a new Samsung main sensor. Oppo claims up to seventeen stops of dynamic range! Meaning bright skies and dark shadows in one shot. Engadget saw less blown-out video, but only a small step up. Three: pro video! Every rear camera shoots 8K. Plus Log footage, open gate, even an optional Tilta cage kit! Translation: filmmakers can bolt it into a rig and fix the colors later.
Okay, specs. A 6.78-inch screen that peaks at 3,600 nits. Is that, bright? That sounds bright. Very. Readable in sunlight. At 120 hertz it redraws 120 times a second: smooth scrolling. And the chip? Tell me the chip's fast. A 2-nanometer MediaTek. Oppo claims 61 percent better multi-core efficiency: it should be fast without torching the battery. Speaking of battery, 7,150 milliamp-hours! That's huge!
In Europe. China gets 8,000. 9to5Google never ended a heavy day below 30 percent. So what did reviewers say? TechRadar calls it the zero-compromise camera phone! And T3 says the best phone camera of the year! Engadget's less dazzled. Quote: Oppo isn't breaking much new ground this year. Ouch. They found the older Find X9 Ultra is, in some ways, the more capable camera. And it was cheaper. Wait. The older phone?
Seriously? Seriously. Engadget says its bigger sensor does better in low light. This one's about 25 percent smaller. Price: 1,499 pounds in the U K, 1,799 euros in Germany and France. One version: 12 gigs of R A M, 512 of storage. Pre-order by October 28th and it's 100 pounds off, plus a free teleconverter, watch or tablet! Nova's Catch: it costs 400 pounds more than the Find X9 Pro. And there's no U S release.
At all. No U S? Oh no. Okay, that's fair. Versus. The Find X9 Ultra: 100 euro cheaper in France, a bigger sensor, and 10 times native zoom. And the regular Find X10 is 400 pound cheaper, and it's smaller! But reviewers found its ultrawide and zoom clearly weaker, and there's no macro. Verdict! Those cameras are so shiny. I'm giving it an 8. Brilliant camera, small leap, big price. 6.8 from me. Wait for a deal or the Ultra.
That's an After Dark Score of 7.4. Number two on phones, right behind the iPhone Duo! Wait for the Ultra, Rocco. And put my wallet back.
