Four stories, and the big one is an oled iPad mini! Welcome to Tech After Dark, with the latest from the last few hours. I've got Hopper, our resident screen lover, Rocco, our gadget-grabbing raccoon, and Ohm, the robot who reads spec sheets like prize cards. Hi everyone! An oled iPad mini? I'm already fluttering at the screen. Hey hey! Paws washed, pockets empty. Ready for anything shiny. Greetings, viewers!
My 1990s circuits are warmed up and hungry for numbers! First up, wearables. Even Realities just launched the Even Brown 2, a brown version of its G2 smart glasses, and they're a bit lighter than the standard G2. Hopper, what's new besides the color? Ooh, every frame gets shaped, pressed, tumbled and polished for 20 hours, so each pair looks a little different! And Engadget says the display does live translation, notifications, even a teleprompter.
To the big board! The Even Brown 2 glasses are 649 dollars and available right now! The sunglasses clip is 149 dollars, and the neck chain, 79 dollars! Seventy-nine dollars for a chain? Engadget says they'd use a shoelace, and honestly, same. They called the controls clunky too, but a recent update added new gestures. Over to foldables. Notebookcheck measured the Xiaomi 18 Fold's inner screen at a peak H D R brightness of 3,759 nits.
Hopper, you're glowing already, aren't you? Completely! The outer screen hits 3,735 nits, and in the Pro Warm profile the colors cover sRGB completely. Set it manually, though, and it tops out at 621 nits inside and 639 outside. Hold on, 3,759! So where's the flaw from the headline, Hopper? It flickers. At minimum brightness, Notebookcheck found strong brightness modulation around 120 hertz, and if you're sensitive to P W M, that could be a dealbreaker.
Breaks my heart a little. In P C land, D T Research just unveiled the LT365PA rugged laptop! Discrete Nvidia graphics! Intel Core Ultra processing! Big words. TechPowerUp says it's built for field teams who need A I computing out in the field. No price or release date yet, so Rocco, no borrowing it for camping. Okay, okay, fair. Let's put the video up on the big screen and admire it from a safe distance.
And now the big one. GSMArena reports Apple's new iPad mini brings the first oled display to the mini line, an 8.5-inch Super Retina X D R panel, plus the A20 Pro chip. Hopper, the screen? Thinner bezels, up to 1,200 nits peak brightness, and optional nano-texture glass for less glare! But it's still 60 hertz. Apple's holding off on ProMotion, and that stings a little. Now, the chip! The 512 gigabyte model gets six C P U cores, but the 128 and 256 gigabyte models get five, and half the N P U power.
Bzzt. The speakers moved under the display too; Apple calls it Acoustic Display. And it's 5.4 millimeters thin and 255 grams, down from 6.3 millimeters and 297 grams on the last one. Thinner, lighter, and it sings! Okay Ohm, is it worth it? What's on the big board? The whole price ladder! 699 dollars for 128 gigabytes, 799 for 256, and 999 for 512! Pre-orders start October 28th, first deliveries November 6th!
