Whoa. Three 4K monitors, off a box you could hide behind one! And twelve gigs of memory, soldered down forever. Hold that thought. This is the GMKtec NucBox M3S! A tiny Windows 11 desktop, 389.99 dollars, for office work, browsing and second-P C duty. Not gaming. This is Tech After Dark: we read eight sources, watched zero hands-ons, and zero hands touched it. Zero so F A R. I know where the store is.
And not one full review among them. Okay, new thing one! Intel's brand-new Wildcat Lake chip, the Core 3 304! One fast core, four low-power cores. Picture one sprinter and four people walking to lunch. Okay, but what does that mean for me? Notebookcheck tested it in a Chuwi laptop: level with a Ryzen 7 7840S on one core, a budget N355 on all. Should be quick at one thing, modest when juggling. And that laptop ran at 35 watts; this box tops out at 25.
New thing two: USB4! Forty gigabits a second for fast drives or docks, under four hundred bucks! Fair. The 559 dollar acemagic Kron Mini K5 skips it, says The Gadgeteer. New thing three: two hdmi plus USB4 means three 4K screens at 60 hertz! Sixty hertz is fine for desktop work. I'm almost impressed. Almost. Twelve gigs of memory. Fine for a second machine. And you can never add more. Never? Like, never never?
Never never. Storage is kinder: a spare slot lets you add a second drive later. One graphics core: video yes, modern 3D games no. Its A I chip misses Microsoft's Copilot Plus bar, says The Gadgeteer. So, the reviewers? Notebookcheck's launch report, not a test, goes straight for the memory. Gaming-st says office and second-P C box, and GMKtec's cheaper M5S is better value unless you need USB4. Ouch.
Camerajabber's friendlier, though! The Gadgeteer's guide says a similar acemagic box throttled, slowing down under sustained load. Nobody's reported that test on this one. 389.99 dollars with 256 gigs, on sale now! Camerajabber says it's normally 519.99 dollars! Nova's Catch: those twelve gigs are it. Gaming-st says running short means replacing the whole machine. Oh no. Okay, that's fair. Bosgame E6 E C O: 40 dollars more, same chip, double the storage, plus Wi-Fi 7.
Wait. Seriously? But this one has faster Ethernet! True. Minisforum's M2 Air-304 is 263 dollars with swappable memory, but memory, storage and Windows cost extra. Scores! I say 6.8. USB4 and three screens this cheap? Shiny! 5.4. Fixed memory, and we found no tests of this box. After Dark Score: 6.1, third on the P C parts board. Verdict: wait for real tests. So I'll just borrow one? Back away from the store, Rocco.
See you next time.
