Hey everyone, welcome to Tech After Dark! I'm Nova, here with Rocco. Tesla just put a timeline on turning customer Model Y cars into paid robotaxis, with its F S D V15 update. Notebookcheck reports that on Tesla's latest earnings call, Director of A I Ashok Elluswamy said the robotaxi software in the Cybercab and the Model Y robotaxis is essentially identical. Current Model Y owners in the U S will get it through F S D V15.
Okay, slow down, Rocco, there's a catch. Customer cars first have to be added to Tesla's fleet management tools and the geofenced areas in Austin and the other cities where its Robotaxi service runs. Ugh, fine. So when do the first customer cars actually join the fleet, Nova? Not tomorrow. Tesla expects to switch on the first customer vehicles for the Robotaxi fleet around the second quarter of next year.
And the Cybercab? Different path entirely. Vice President of Manufacturing Lars Moravy said Tesla wants Cybercabs with customers by the end of 2026, but Elon Musk added it'll mostly stay a Tesla-owned service. In my view, regulators, insurers and owners still need convincing, so going slow makes sense. That's from Notebookcheck, with the full post linked. For Tech After Dark, see you next time!
